News & Articles Christodoulou-Karanikolas leading after Leg 1 in Acropolis Rally Legends!
The youngest driver participating in the 2nd Acropolis Rally Legends, Achilleas Christodoulou leads the event, having Epaminondas Karanikolas on the right bucket of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI. This class is for cars built between 1991 and 2000 and the crews compete on the same Special Stages as the Sporting crews of the Historic Acropolis Rally.
The 19-year-old driver, in the second rally of his short career, set the best performance in three of the four stages of the first leg, navigated by the former 2WD driver’s champion, and has a gap of more than 90 seconds from his rivals. Andreas Christodoulakis-Stavros Anamolidis made a comeback in rallying, driving a Subaru Legacy 4WD Turbo and are second overall, ahead of Nikos Moschopoulos-Irini Kogia Grammatikou, who drive a Toyota Yaris. Kyriakos and Dimitris Vytogiannis (Subaru Impreza GT Turbo) finished the 1st Leg fourth overall, The second 2WD car of the rally, that is driven by Vassilis Karathanasis-Eleni Karathanasi is in the fifth place overall, in an Opel Astra GSI.
Akis Ladias-Mihalis Patrikousis, who started the race strongly, achieving the best performance in the opening Special Stage of the 2nd Acropolis Rally Legends retired due to gearbox problems. Stelios Giamalakis-Nikos Samios in the impressive Ford Escort RS Cosworth did not finish in Friday’s leg either, as they too were betrayed by the gearbox, on the liaison.
