News & Articles Sporting, SS3: Pitsos leads after the first morning

Konstantinos Pitsos and Stelios Karapapazis (Ford Sierra Cosworth 4×4/E4) won the first three special stages of the morning leg of the Historic Acropolis Rally 2022, having created a lead of almost 1′ from the second crew of the general classification.

Panagiotis Paradisis – Kostas Poimenidis (Ford Escort Mk2 RS/D3), who followed the leaders in the ranking of all three specials, are in second place in the general classification and are the leaders in their class. The top three of the general classification are completed by Alexandros Halivelakis – Athanasios Papandreou ((Ford Escort MKII RS2000/D3), who are second in their class.

The unlucky ones of the morning leg
Konstantinos Kapourelakos – Georgia Zambeli (BMW 320 E21) and Pantelis Antonopoulos – Maira Kallitsi (Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000) retired after the end of the first SS due to mechanical problems.

The second SS was interrupted for 8 minutes after an accident of Dimitris Vazakas – Nikos Tsadaris (Toyota Starlet KP60), who are in good health but had to abandon the rally.
In the third SS of the morning leg, Chrysostomos Karellis – Leonidas Machairas (Peugeot 205 Rallye), Alexandros Papandreou – Dimitris Rizopoulos (Toyota Starlet KP61) and Yannis Kalaitzian – Margianna Kalogirotou (VW Golf GTi 16V) retired due to mechanical problems.

Athanasios Athanassoulas – Vassilis Basioukas (Toyota Starlet KP61) had an exit at the first kilometer of the special “Thiva”, while Panagiotis Koutsikos and Nikos Petropoulos suffered from mechanical issues and were forced to reiter at the liaison following SS3.

Karanikolas – Kakavas are leading in Rally Legends
In the new category of the Historic Rally Acropolis, the “Rally Legends”, Epaminondas Karanikolas – Giorgos Kakavas (Ford Escort RS Cosworth) are leading the general classification with a time of 25:12.90, having dominated all three special stages of the morning leg.

Second overall are Theodoros Kalamaras – Vasiliki Psarakou (Citroen Saxo VTS), while the top three are completed by Ioannis Papazisis – Konstantinos Pediaditakis with Mazda 323 Familia. Kyriakos Vtoutogiannis – Yannis Katsikas (Subaru Impreza 555) are fourth overall.
